LAS VEGAS—Platinum-recording jazz artist Najee, “Queen of Comedy” Sommore and celebrated local bands will bring their acclaimed performances to Access Showroom at Aliante Casino + Hotel + Spa this January.

Saturday, Jan. 20

Best known as one of the pioneers of contemporary jazz, Najee started his musical career playing the clarinet, saxophone and flute in his hometown Jamaica, Queens, N.Y. After years of studying music in New York and Boston, Mass., Najee received his big break when he was asked to perform with the iconic R&B songstress Chaka Khan.

Najee debuted his first album “Najee’s Theme” in 1986, which went Platinum and was later nominated for a Grammy Award in 1987. Najee followed his newfound success with his sophomore album “Day by Day,” which also went Platinum after its release. The jazz musician also released two certified-Gold albums “Tokyo Blue” and “Just An Illusion.” The artist went on to release a total of three platinum and five gold albums throughout his career.

Najee has enjoyed major success in this career, receiving numerous awards, including the Soul Train Music Award for Best Jazz Artist and NAACP Image Awards. He has also brought his smooth jazz hits on tour all over the world and has performed for well-known leaders, including the former President of South Africa Nelson Mandela and U.S. President Bill Clinton.

Sommore began her career in 1994 as the first woman to host BET’s “Comic View.” The following year, the comedienne’s fame skyrocketed after hosting Russell Simmons’ “Def Comedy Jam” and “Showtime at the Apollo.” That same year, she received the Richard Pryor Award for Comic of the Year. In 2000, Sommore went on to star in the “Queen of Comedy” tour, performing in front of a record-breaking audience of more than 50,000 people in Atlanta, Ga. The movie based on the tour later became the longest-running and highest-rated special in the history of Showtime Networks.

In her more than 20-year career, Sommore has become a trailblazer for women in the comedy business as one of the most successful comedians in the U.S. and abroad. Sommore wrote and produced her own comedy specials “The Queen Stands Alone” and “Chandelier Status,” which both became celebrated, best-selling stand-up films. She’s also headlined for several comedy tours with comedic icons Jerry Seinfeld, Chris Rock, Steve Harvey and Cedric the Entertainer. The “Queen of Comedy” has also been featured in top feature films, including “Soul Plane,” “Family Reunion” and “Friday After Next.”
