Even heavy rain couldn’t dampen the excitement in the air as Boyd Gaming executives and team members, Louisiana dignitaries and customers gathered at Delta Downs on Jan. 19 to celebrate the completion of the $45 million expansion.
Boyd Gaming Executive Chairman Bill Boyd was joined by President and CEO Keith Smith as they kicked off the festivities in a brief ceremony. Mr. Boyd pushed the button that set off a fireworks show and transformed a historic property photo into Delta Downs’ impressive new façade.
“Since it joined the Boyd Gaming family in 2001, Delta Downs has come a long way,” said Smith. “From its modest start as a standalone racetrack, Delta Downs has grown into one of the popular gaming entertainment destinations in Louisiana.”
The expansion project began in 2015 when Delta Downs broke ground on its new hotel tower. More than a year later, all 167 new rooms are open, and the property’s existing 203 rooms have been completely renovated. The luxurious, modern feel of the new rooms is accented by dark wood textures, chocolate and smoky grey color palettes, abstract modern art and more.
In addition, the all-new pool deck features day beds and cabanas, a water slide, outdoor bars, a barbeque pit and a state-of-the-art sound system.
The hotel tower and new guest amenities follow the opening of Rosewater Grill & Tavern, which opened in February 2016. The sleek, sophisticated steakhouse offers impeccable views of the Delta Downs racetrack, plus a menu filled with steak, seafood, and other Louisiana-inspired favorites.
The expansion project not only provides Delta Downs the ability to serve even more customers, but will contribute to the local economy by creating new jobs and opportunities for growth within the Delta Downs family.
“This expansion is not just an investment in the customers of the present and the future, it’s an investment and vote of confidence in this community,” said Smith.
