Boyd Gaming Recognizes National Safety Month

As National Safety Month, June is the perfect time to remember the importance of promoting workplace safety.

Boyd Gaming has a strong commitment to workplace safety, which is an integral part of the Company’s culture. The Company strives to promote safety in the workplace for all team members while providing a safe environment for our guests to enjoy. As the Company grows, these high safety standards are passed on to our newer properties.

This philosophy has made Boyd Gaming an industry leader in workplace safety. Nine of our properties in Nevada have been awarded SHARP status by OSHA, awarded to businesses that have implemented outstanding safety programs. The Company is also working diligently to implement equally stringent safety standards at its three newest properties in Nevada, as well as the rest of its properties across the nation.

To further promote and enhance safety among team members, the Company also requires them to participate in annual safety training to help increase their knowledge of safety in the workplace. Additionally, each property has a Safety Committee where team members meet several times a year to discuss safety topics and explore ways they can work smart to enhance safety in their work environments.

The Company also recognizes Boyd Gaming properties that demonstrate the best overall and most improved safety performances with Safety Awards each year.

Earlier this year, the Company presented 2016 Safety Awards to four top performing properties. The President’s Award for Safety Performance for best overall safety performance was awarded to Kansas Star Casino Hotel Event Center for the Blue Division (properties above 800 team members) and Jokers Wild for the Silver Division (properties below 800 team members) for the second year in a row for both properties.

The Most Improved Safety Performance Award was earned by properties who made the most significant progress in reducing workplace injury incidents. Gold Coast Hotel and Casino won the award for the Blue Division and Evangeline Downs Racetrack Casino Hotel received the award for the Silver Division.

Dennis Siano, Vice President of Safety, reminds team members of the importance of safety in the workplace.

“We practice high safety standards, provide proper safety training and encourage team members to work together to help create a safer work environment for everyone, with our goal in mind: zero workplace injuries,” said Siano. “Not only is this our goal, but we are coming closer to achieving it. As an example, Jokers Wild just recorded 386 days without an OSHA recordable injury.”
