On Sunday, Oct. 1, Las Vegas faced one of the darkest days in its history. The Boyd Gaming family immediately joined the community in mourning for those who lost their lives and praying for those who were injured and experienced the traumatic event.
Thankfully, those Boyd Gaming team members who attended the festival were physically unharmed, but we are mindful that they are coping with a traumatic event -- and know that some team members have friends and family who were injured or lost their lives. The entire Boyd Gaming family stands with these team members at this difficult time, and has offered counseling services to assist.
Like so many others, Boyd Gaming also did its part to assist the victims, their families, and first responders during this critical time of need.
The Company joined forces with its partners in the Nevada Resort Association by pledging $1 million for victim relief efforts. Additionally, our Las Vegas-area properties provided free accommodations to well over 100 family members of victims who needed local places to stay while attending to their loved ones at Las Vegas hospitals.
Team members pitched in as well. Numerous team members in Las Vegas waited in line to donate blood at local United Blood Services locations, helping to save the lives of those who were seriously injured. Team members at Sam’s Town Shreveport joined in with a blood drive of their own, showing their support for their friends and colleagues in Las Vegas.
At The Orleans, Gold Coast and Suncoast, team members pitched in to provide meals and care packages to victims’ families, volunteers and officials. They assembled snacks for blood donors and families waiting at local hospitals, and lunches for FBI agents and the staff at the Clark County Office of the Coroner/Medical Examiner.
In support of our great city, Boyd Gaming team members in Las Vegas wore special “Vegas Strong” t-shirts to work on Friday, Oct. 13, showing their support to the victims, as well as to the first responders who so bravely helped save countless lives.
And on Thursday, October 19, Boyd Gaming is teaming up with Beasley Media Group to host “Vegas Strong: A Night of Healing” – a free benefit concert at the Orleans Arena. Country performers Big & Rich, Cam and others are scheduled to perform, with donations being collected for victim relief. (All tickets for this event have already been distributed by Beasley.)
“In the face of unspeakable tragedy, the entire community came together to help,” said Bill Boyd, Executive Chairman of Boyd Gaming. “We can all take great pride in calling ourselves Las Vegans, and I am so proud of every Boyd Gaming team member who pitched in to help.”
As the Las Vegas community continues to recover, we remain resilient and united. We are truly Vegas Strong.
