The Filament Illuminates Dining Scene at Diamond Jo Casino

In 1879, Thomas Edison invented the electric lightbulb. In 2017, Diamond Jo Casino opened The Filament.

What does one have to do with the other?

The Filament, an eclectic brew pub, borrows its name from its distinctive, decorative Edison light bulb accents, known as filaments. A filament in a light bulb is heated to incandescence by an electric current until it glows with light.

The Filament has been electrifying the Dubuque, Iowa casino since its grand opening on Aug. 31. About 100 local business leaders and government officials were on hand to celebrate the opening, in partnership with the Dubuque Chamber of Commerce.

Diamond Jo already had a buffet, sports bar, steakhouse and Subway, but the brewpub offers an ideal location for locals and visitors alike to meet-up and eat-up in an inviting environment.

“The Filament is another great addition to the Diamond Jo experience, offering a fresh and engaging new entertainment and dining option for our guests,” said Wendy Runde, Vice President and General Manager of Diamond Jo. “We are committed to keep improving and re-investing in our property, and we think our guests will greatly enjoy this welcoming and comfortable new venue, with a unique collection of food and drinks.”

The pub's polished pony kegs, colorful drinks, dark wood fixtures and custom-made pewter bar top create a smart and polished aesthetic, the perfect environment for socializing with friends, family and colleagues. In addition to great food and 20 craft beers on tap, there are 15 big screen TVs for guests to enjoy.

"For the guest who wants a new and different dining experience, the Filament is the perfect choice," said Marty Maiers, Director of Marketing for Diamond Jo Casino. "Guest’s feedback for The Filament has been tremendous. We’ve heard great comments from our long-time customers as well as new guests coming to see what the buzz is about.”

Maiers has been lucky enough to eat at The Filament a couple of times. His favorite dishes are the Rueben Eggrolls and the giant One Pound Meatball. Other highlights of The Filament's unique take on classic tavern food include: Hot & Spicy Edamame, Mussel with Thai Red Curry and Potosi Root Beer Floats.

The Filament also offers impressive craft beer and mixology programs. Specialty cocktails include the Bright Idea: a melon cocktail of Bacardi Rum, Midori melon liqueur and a splash of Sprite and orange juice; Fritz’s Kilo-Wit Cocktail: a Belgian cocktail with orange and lemon juice; and the Radiant Raz Martini: a blend of pomegranate vodka and liqueur with fresh raspberries.

Launching the Filament was truly a team effort for Diamond Jo Casino, led by Runde and including team members from Facilities, Marketing, Boyd Creative Services, and Corporate.

"However, most of the credit goes to our Food and Beverage department for working countless hours to have the restaurant ready on day one," said Maiers.

The Filament is conveniently located on the gaming floor, just inside the east entrance. It is open from 4 p.m. to midnight nightly, and from 11 a.m. to midnight on Saturdays and Sundays.
