Veteran Wall Tribute Debuts at Sam’s Town Las Vegas

To honor the team members who have served in the United States Armed Forces, Boyd Gaming has recently launched a Company-wide veteran wall tribute program.

The mission of the new program is to show appreciation to team members who are veterans, recognizing them on veteran wall tributes that will be located at all Boyd Gaming properties by Veterans Day (Sunday, Nov. 11).

With veteran wall tributes already existing at Kansas Star Casino and Diamond Jo Casino in Dubuque, Iowa, the Company’s first veteran wall in Las Vegas debuted at Sam’s Town Hotel & Gambling Hall this summer. The veteran wall displays photos of veteran team members as well as their names, ranks and branches of service. Additionally, the tribute includes a United States flag and official military seals.

Boyd Gaming’s Veteran Recruitment and Retention team was inspired to develop the veterans tribute program because of the Company’s close connection to the veteran community, as it was founded by veterans Sam Boyd and his son, Bill Boyd.

“Boyd Gaming was founded by veterans, so veterans are at the root of the Company’s history,” said Veteran Recruiter and Retention Specialist Samuel Boyd, Jr. “The time they spent in the service is definitely worthy of recognition.”

Prior to building one of the most successful gaming companies in the nation, Sam and Bill Boyd both served in the military. In 1944, Boyd Gaming Co-Founder Sam Boyd was drafted into the U.S. Army during World War II where he spent his time at Camp Wheeler, Georgia as a surgical technician, serving as an assistant in the medical corps for physicians and surgeons. Sam went on to become a Corporal, completing his service in 1946.

Boyd Gaming Executive Chairman Bill Boyd was drafted into the U.S. Army in 1953 during the Korean War. Throughout his service, Bill served in the infantry in Munich, Germany and later became a legal clerk for the Munich Subarea. Bill then went on to become a Private First Class, completing his service in 1955.

With hundreds of veterans in Boyd Gaming’s workforce, Bill Boyd says the Company is proud to honor veterans on the veteran wall tributes.

“In addition to their tremendous service to our nation, veterans have played an integral role in helping Boyd Gaming to grow and succeed throughout the Company’s history,” said Bill Boyd. “We truly value and appreciate our veteran team members and are proud to honor them through the new veteran wall tribute program.”
