Sports fans in the state of Pennsylvania may now place wagers in a web browser or through FanDuel’s mobile app, which was the first available for Apple’s iOS mobile platform. In addition to traditional betting options like point spreads, totals, parlays and teasers, Valley Forge customers can also make live, in-game wagers from an extensive betting menu.
“Boyd Gaming has been an amazing organization to work with,” said Kevin Hennessy, FanDuel’s Director of Publicity. “We were able to put together an impressive app and then market it to all of Pennsylvania — not just in Philadelphia.
“Having the Valley Forge partnership and name in Philadelphia was a huge asset for us,” said Hennessy. “And it’s paying great dividends for us.”
“It’s an exciting opportunity for us to partner with one of the nation’s leading sports betting brands,” said David Strow, Boyd Gaming Vice President of Corporate Communications. “(FanDuel has) half of the market in New Jersey, so that speaks to the power of their brand. We’re very optimistic about the potential of the FanDuel Sportsbook at Valley Forge.”
Strow said the ability to more easily reach customers outside the Philadelphia area is a big move for the Company.
“We now have the opportunity to extend our partnership across the state of Pennsylvania,” he said. “We see considerable upside because we can now offer our product across the state.”
Both companies hope that their sports betting products will attract more youthful customers.
“InPlay wagering has become a big part of our online and mobile business which is great for customers who now have a myriad of different options to take advantage of once a game starts,” said Hennessy.
Bettors can choose to place wagers on just the first three innings of a baseball game or which players might hit a home run. Live odds are also available on tennis and golf tournaments.
In a recent Major League Baseball game, the Atlanta Braves were a -128 favorite over the New York Mets prior to the first pitch. But after the Mets opened the game with a double, single and home run to take a 3-0 lead, New York was -270 favorite.
“(These are) prop bets that really make the sports betting experience a lot more fun, a lot more engaging and a true way for the FanDuel Sportsbook app to compliment the game watching experience,” said Hennessy.
The Boyd Gaming-FanDuel partnership has more plans in the works, according to Strow.
The companies are opening new sportsbooks in Iowa and Indiana over the next several weeks, he said.
