It’s only the third location where guests can find the much sought after baked-to-order delectable Italian and Mediterranean dishes. Ameristar Casino Hotel in Kansas City, Missouri recently introduced the Philadelphia-based Zavino Italian Kitchen + Wine Bar to its thriving streetscape.
“When we looked at the Kansas City market, Italian food was at the top of the list for most popular restaurants people frequent when going out for dinner,” said Marc DeLeo, Vice President of Marketing at Ameristar Kansas City. “We thought Zavino would be a great fit since we already had an excellent steakhouse, buffet, oyster bar and sports bar.”
The highly-acclaimed Philadelphia pizzeria led by the Zavino Hospitality Group was a preferred eatery when the casino went looking for a perfect culinary partner to add to its popular dining atmosphere.
“Zavino’s famous wood-fired pizzas and authentic Italian fare is the perfect addition to our current restaurant collection at Ameristar,” said Keith W. Henson, Senior Vice President and General Manager of Ameristar Kansas City. “We’re proud to partner with Zavino Hospitality Group to bring its well-known concept from the East coast to our guests in a unique drinking and dining experience.”
The menu at Zavino draws from its cozy 13th Street kitchen in Philly with baked-to-order Neapolitan-style pizza pies, delectable Italian and Mediterranean entrees, an expansive wine, beer and cocktail menu, and the gracious hospitality Zavino and Ameristar are both known for.
“Introducing Zavino to the Midwest and the vibrant Kansas City dining district is very exciting,” said Greg Dodge, Zavino Hospitality Group owner.
The eatery is contemporary yet casual with a carefully crafted menu.
“Our team members are excited to show off this great new space located right on the Ameristar Streetscape outside the main casino entrance,” DeLeo said. “It has a great modern look and feel, the perfect spot to grab a cocktail or a bite before a concert or night in the casino.”
The favored pizzas at Zavino’s include The Joey with Berkshire pork sausage, mozzarella, crushed tomato, spinach, garlic, chili flakes and provolone and The ‘Stache with pistachio pesto, mozzarella, parmesan, lemon vinaigrette and baby arugula on a whole wheat crust.
The small plates menu is ideal for date nights or meeting up with friends. A popular dish among Ameristar guests is the Veal and Ricotta Meatballs with crushed tomato sauce and Grana Padano cheese and House-Baked Flatbread sprinkled with fresh herbs and served alongside creamy ricotta cheese and a drizzle of good Italian olive oil.
The Kansas City location includes select dishes inspired from Zavino’s sister restaurant, Tredici Enoteca, with locations in Washington D.C. and Philadelphia. Guests are returning for the Moroccan Spiced Ribs with grilled scallions and Bacon-Wrapped Dates stuffed with Manchego and blue cheeses and served alongside spinach crema.
Zavino is now open Tuesday through Thursday from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m.; Fridays and Saturdays from 11 a.m. to midnight; and Sundays from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. The restaurant is closed on Mondays. It is also proud to host private parties of all sizes. For more information on event offerings, please call (816) 414-7590.
