- Ocho Ocho Ocho, Mr. Z and Far Right Will Run for the Roses on Saturday -

VINTON, La.—For the second time in three years the $1,000,000 Delta Downs Jackpot (Gr. III) has produced three horses that will start in the Kentucky Derby. Ocho Ocho Ocho, Mr. Z and Far Right, who finished first, second and third respectively in the $1,000,000 Delta Downs Jackpot last November, will be part of Saturday’s field for the 141st ‘Run for the Roses’.

The $1,000,000 Delta Downs Jackpot has been part Churchill Downs ‘Road to the Kentucky Derby’ series of races since its inception in 2013. This year the race was one of only 10 2-year-old stakes races that awarded qualifying points to the Kentucky Derby. The top 20 point earners are given first preference to get into the starting gate at Churchill Downs on the first Saturday in May.

During its 12-year existence the $1,000,000 Delta Downs Jackpot has sent a dozen horses to Louisville for the most famous race in North America. The best finish by a Jackpot graduate came in 2005 when Closing Argument ran a close second to longshot Giacomo.

The $1,000,000 Delta Downs Jackpot has also been a stepping stone to several impressive and award winning equine careers. The 2008 winner, Big Drama, scored a huge win in the 2010 Breeders’ Cup Sprint (Gr. I) and was later honored with an Eclipse Award. The 2012 champion, Goldencents, not only took part in the 2013 edition of the Kentucky Derby but also won multiple grade I races including the Breeders’ Cup Dirt Mile twice and the Santa Anita Derby before retiring to stud with career earnings of more than $3 million.
