LAS VEGAS, Oct. 21, 2020 – Three Square Food Bank announced that it has received a $150,000 grant from long-time partner Boyd Gaming Corporation to continue its fight against food insecurity in Southern Nevada, currently at record high levels due to COVID-19. The donation will allow the nonprofit to provide an additional 450,000 meals to Valley residents struggling with hunger.
According to the 2020 Feeding America Map the Meal Gap study, one in five individuals in Southern Nevada are now food-insecure, including 171,510 children.
“The vital and life-saving role of food banks remains on full display as our community continues to face the health and economic fallout of COVID-19,” said Three Square Food Bank President and CEO Brian Burton. “Thanks to support from partners like Boyd Gaming – who stood by us long before the pandemic and since – Three Square is able to remain on the front line ensuring our neighbors have the food they need during these difficult times.”
Boyd Gaming has been a staunch supporter of Three Square since the food bank’s inception in 2007. Before the pandemic, Boyd Gaming employees regularly volunteered at the food bank packing meals for community members in need. In addition to donating more than 91,000 pounds of food this year alone, Boyd Gaming’s Eastside Cannery currently serves as one of Three Square’s drive-thru food distribution sites in the southeast valley.
“Boyd Gaming’s partnership with Three Square stems from our commitment to improve the quality of life in the communities where we live and work,” said Boyd Gaming Vice Chairman, Executive Vice President and Chief Diversity Officer Marianne Johnson. “Thanks to our hardworking team members, we are able to support great organizations like Three Square, which serves one of the most essential needs of our community.”

About Three Square Food Bank
Three Square is Southern Nevada’s only food bank and largest hunger relief organization, serving Las Vegas and all of Clark, Lincoln, Esmeralda and Nye counties. Since opening in 2007, Three Square has provided more than 385 million pounds of food to hundreds of thousands of people in need and earned a reputation as one of the most efficient and effective food banks in the country. When the COVID-19 pandemic struck, Three Square immediately implemented a disaster response plan to answer sudden school and business closures, drastic declines in retail food donations, social distancing limitations on volunteer efforts, reduced on-site staff support, and the need for low-contact food distributions. Within days, Three Square had increased food distribution by 250,000 meals a week and increased the capacity of its Call Center to refer Southern Nevadans to available food resources, social services, and unemployment benefits. While Three Square’s COVID-19 relief efforts have superseded regular programs and operations for the foreseeable future, it is more committed than ever to its mission of providing wholesome food to hungry people, while passionately pursuing a hunger-free community. Three Square is a member of the Feeding America network of food banks.
