Earlier this year, tornadoes ripped through southern Mississippi, causing significant damage in the cities of Hattiesburg and Petal, which are located just 75 miles from Biloxi. More than 15,000 homes and businesses were left without power, in addition to severe damage to many homes. Tree limbs, power lines and more were ripped out of the ground and strewn throughout neighborhoods.
To assist with the community’s recovery, Boyd Gaming and the IP Biloxi donated $25,000 to American Red Cross on Thursday, Feb. 16 to support local relief efforts.
“Boyd Gaming is proud to partner with the American Red Cross as they provide much-needed support to our Mississippi neighbors during this difficult time,” said Vince Schwartz, Senior Vice President, Operations for Boyd Gaming.
In addition to the $25,000 donation, IP team members also collected essential supplies for the Red Cross to distribute to residents affected by the tornadoes, including cleaning supplies, work gloves, insect repellent, sunscreen and bottled water and sports drinks. In all, IP team members filled a truck full with needed supplies on Feb. 16 for American Red Cross to distribute to those in need.
“Our team members really love helping in the community. It causes a real sense of pride to work for the great company we do when we’re able to give cash and they’re able to contribute in their own way,” said Duncan McKenzie, Vice President and General Manager of the IP. “It’s really a team effort and a community effort and it’s just very rewarding for all of us.”
