The Boyd Gaming Creative Services team, headquartered in Dubuque, Iowa, has proven once again to be among the best of the best.
Two of its team members, Senior Graphics Designers Nicole Tupy and Jessica Ambrosy, recently competed against top local and industry talent to earn prestigious American Advertising Awards (known as ADDYs) from the American Advertising Federation (AAF).
Tupy won a Gold ADDY for a 2020 New Year’s Eve invitation for Indiana’s Belterra Casino Resort. Ambrosy won a Silver ADDY for her 60K Firebreathing Blackjack Tournament invitation design for IP Casino Resort Spa in Biloxi, Miss.
Tanya Maiers, Director of Creative Services, stressed the significance of the wins, noting that the internal team competed for these awards against ad agencies with national brands.
“It is a great honor for the team to be recognized for their excellence when competing with these groups,” she said.
The accolades for Tupy and Ambrosy don’t end there. Both artists were honored with Design of the Quarter Awards from Boyd Gaming.
Tupy, a Minnesota native, moved to Dubuque for college and joined Boyd Gaming’s Creative Services team in 2015.
“It feels amazing winning the award,” she said. “It is always a good feeling getting recognized for a design that one spends so much time on.”
Tupy, who also received two gold medals for the New Year’s Eve piece from Print Excellence, described her NOLA-themed invitation as an interactive sculpture made from paper.
“The creativity in the Dubuque Corporate office is immense,” she added. “It’s great to work with so many talented people.”
Maiers agreed, calling Tupy’s design skills a huge asset to the team.
“Nicole is a kind and generous team member and is well-loved by all,” she said.
Jessica Ambrosy joined the Boyd Gaming Creative Services team in 2014. While she has a degree in graphic design and has worked in the field for eight years, “it wasn’t until I started at Boyd Gaming that I really got going in my career,” she said.
“I love working here,” said Ambrosy, who also won an ADDY in 2017. “My favorite part is the people I work with and the chance to create design pieces that are fun and unique.”
Ambrosy’s dragon-themed blackjack tournament invitation includes a pop of color on a dark background and an interesting die-cut.
“I’m super happy to win this award,” she said. “I was able to win in the Mississippi Gulf Coast market, which is pretty competitive with so many well-branded casinos also being part of the competition.”
Maiers believes the Creative Services department is lucky to have Ambrosy on their team: “Jessica’s talent, professionalism and dedication makes her a wonderful example of Boyd Style.”
Congratulations to both designers on their wins!
